Cleaning Up Your Own Backyard

3 Things You Need To Think About Before Putting In Your Own Yard

by Warren Garcia

Putting in your yard can be very doable and very affordable if you know what you are doing. There are so many people who decide that they want to put in their own sprinklers and sod, only to end up regretting it later because they didn't understand well enough how to do it. Here are some things that you should know about putting in your own yard.

1. Don't Place The Grass Right Up Against The House

Before you start the process you need to be sure what you are going to do with the yard. You need to decide where you will have flower beds, a deck, trees, and so forth. When deciding it is important that you don't put the grass right up against the house. If you have a smaller yard you might think that this is a good way to maximize the amount of grass you have in your yard, however the grass is very wet. You will have to water that area a lot and in so doing, you can damage your house. In fact, some builders won't honor your foundation warranty if you have grass touching the house. For this reason, give yourself at least a couple feet before you put down the grass.

2. Get The Sprinklers Working Well Before Laying Sod

Another thing you need to think about it getting the sprinklers working before you put the sod down. Some people think that they will be able to finish the sprinklers after the sod is laid, but this is dangerous thinking. It will be much harder to get your sprinklers working the way you want them to if you have grass over top of them. For this reason, test the sprinklers out before, make sure that you are done with all the sprinklers before putting down any grass.

3. Water The Grass and Stay Off It

Once the sod is laid, you should try to stay off it for a couple weeks. This is because the grass requires a great deal of water to take root. So you will be watering it 2-3 times a day. Thus, while it is so wet you could damage it by stepping on it. It will mat the grass down so that it doesn't look right, it could even ruin certain parts. Even though it may be tempting you need to wait a long time, maybe even a month, before using the grass.

By understanding these things you can put in your own yard and be confident that you did it right. Contact a landscape company, like Wagner SOD Company, for more help.
